The house has two fronts. One faces the open vista while the other turns
to enclose the intimate court that serves as an entry from the drive. The
main house is composed of four stone elements that are linked by the long
west porch and a wide metal roof, breaking the scale down to a series of
intimate spaces. The stone was quarried only a few miles from the site.
Metal roofs have been traditional to the area since the arrival of the railroad.
