The living room is a simple interior volume of the house shape common to the four stone units. The fireplace is an energy efficient Rumford faced with limestone. Oak bookcases give the effect of a paneled study. A high shelf that forms the top of the bookcase was meant as display space for the owners' ceramics collection. This shelf also acts as a reflector to bounce light up onto the ceiling, especially when the sun is low in the winter sky.
